Trump Praises Florida Police Action During Epstein Investigation

(MENAFN) Donald Trump, who was not yet in public office at the time, reached out to law enforcement in Florida during the mid-2000s investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, expressing support for authorities pursuing the case, according to reports.

As stated by reports, Michael Reiter, the former police chief of Palm Beach, later informed federal investigators about a phone conversation he had with Trump years earlier regarding Epstein.

“Thank goodness you’re stopping him, everyone has known he’s been doing this,” Trump told the police chief in 2006, said Reiter.

Documents summarizing that exchange were included in a recently disclosed batch of files connected to the Epstein case. The records indicate that Trump encouraged investigators to look closely at Epstein’s associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, and referred to her as “evil.”

Maxwell, who played a prominent role in Epstein’s network, was found guilty in 2022 on charges that included sex trafficking and received a 20-year prison sentence.

During an interview last year, Trump was asked whether he would consider granting Maxwell a pardon amid speculation about the possibility. He responded, “I’m allowed to give her a pardon” but did not rule it out, adding that no one has approached him about doing so.

Reports also state that Trump told authorities in 2006 that Epstein had a negative reputation in New York social circles, describing him as “disgusting.” He allegedly said that on one occasion he found himself in Epstein’s presence when teenagers were there and that he “got the hell out of there.”

Epstein ultimately entered a guilty plea in Florida in 2008, admitting to procuring a minor for prostitution. Although he was convicted, the agreement he reached with prosecutors has been widely criticized, with some labeling it a “sweetheart deal.”
